Summary
In mid December Miles Arbour, with Bikepacking.com, and I headed to Phoenix Arizona to check out the Queen's Ransom Route developed by John Schilling. Miles flew down from Canada and I drove up from Texas, each of us coming from completely different riding environments and levels of fitness. To be honest, this trip was planned last minute and neither of us did much homework before setting out on the 230 miles Queen's Ransom Route that features a lot of singletrack, some of which is rated Black.
Miles was there to ride the route with the goal of publishing it on Bikepacking.com. I was there because he invited me, and I invited my recording equipment. So, what happens when a Canadian and Texan ride off into the Arizona Desert? Only one way to find out! Check out this episode and then go ride your damn bike, maybe even on the Queen's Ransom.

| 0:00.0 | Hello, friends, and welcome to the Bikes for Death podcast. As always, my name is Patrick, |
| 0:04.7 | and I am your host. Surprise! And on today's episode, Miles and I go on a route scouting, |
| 0:18.4 | bikepacking adventure, a little bit east of Phoenix, Arizona, and at the base of |
| 0:24.0 | the superstition mountains. |
| 0:26.3 | This is a route called the Queen's Ransom Route that was created by John Schilling. |
| 0:33.3 | He submitted it as a potential route to be published on bikepacking.com. |
| 0:38.8 | And so Miles and I threw together kind of a last minute bikepacking trip, very last |
| 0:43.9 | minute. |
| 0:44.4 | You'll hear about that in today's episode. |
| 0:47.7 | But we went in very underprepared with very little information. |
| 0:51.4 | We had a great time. |
| 0:52.8 | But we were kind of there for two things, |
| 0:55.3 | one, to preview this route and see about potentially putting it up on bikepacking.com as a |
| 1:02.2 | published route. And also, we just wanted to go ride bikes together and have a great time in the |
| 1:07.8 | desert. And we accomplished both things. So, you know, while we're |
| 1:12.2 | recording today's episode, we didn't know at the time if it would be a published route until, |
| 1:18.9 | you know, we wrote it and we talked about it along the way. And it became evident that it was a |
| 1:25.1 | very good route that John had put in a lot of work. |
| 1:28.2 | And yeah, just a very solid route. |
| 1:30.4 | So there was no doubt as we kept going on the route that it would be published. |
| 1:36.5 | So at the time of this recording, you can find this route published at bikepacking.com. |
| 1:44.0 | Again, it's called the Queen's Ransom |
