So if you're listening with young kids, you might want to stop and

pick it up later. I was very lucky to be put in a class by an organization called Risk.

It is a course that is for journalists who work in conflict zones.

12 to 20 journalists come in and learn from military experts and they basically teach you how to deal with

shrapnel wounds, gunshot wounds, how to patch legs, broken arms, and how to triage for emergencies when you or

your colleague has been hurt.

And so we had a group of about 20 people in Nairobi.

It was a wonderful experience.

Unfortunately, we did lose one of our journalists a few months later.

At the end, you have this full-on battlefield recreation.

Each dummy has a different injury and they say,

okay, you got to run to the dummy and fix the problems within you know two

minutes or whatever but what they don't tell you is that they're going to start

growing fireworks at you and black cats and there's going to be smoke and they're

going to start these machines that shake the ground you You think it's just going to be this quick, quick exercise, final exercise,

and it's just like extremely intense.

In fact, I went back to the room that we were seeing in after the simulation and

and cry, because I never want to be in this situation

when these are real people.

Because this is a horrifying thing to have to do.
