A couple of months ago, we talked about lessons from footage of the first defensive fights in Ukrainian. Today we're talking about some larger lessons related to defense innovation. Is the American Military model more like Ukraine's or Russia's?

This is another T-Rex talk about the big lessons from Ukraine. We already had an episode

0:06.5

about the small lessons of Ukraine. I think it was a couple months ago. It was a few weeks

0:11.3

into the war and we were looking at just a lot of footage, handheld camera footage,

0:16.7

live streaming footage directly from kind of the front lines of that invasion. And there were a lot

0:21.6

of lessons that were visible. And a lot of it was really small individual level stuff, just kind of

0:26.5

what the face of 21st century war looks like and fighting in built up areas and what sort of tools

0:32.2

are useful, what sort of things are really good to have in that sort of situation. And a lot of

0:36.4

0:43.2

short range communications, drones, thermal, et cetera. It's not surprising, but it was really helpful to visually see some of this stuff and see how it actually played out. And sometimes

You get stuff that is simultaneously too flimsy to be useful and too thick to be

1:14.3

sharp. And there's no telling whether it comes clipped, which definitely need clipped concertina wire.

1:19.1

So I'm currently in the market for a new concertina wire guy. What about big lessons? I think

1:24.9

there's some big lessons that at this point in the war are fairly

1:28.0

obvious and people really need to learn from. And I'm not talking about the biggest lessons. I'm not

1:33.3

talking about morality and just war theory. Those are very important, but David Botkin is a much

1:38.5

better commentator on just warfare, has done a lot more research, has a lot bigger thoughts on it.

1:43.6

So I'm mostly going to be
