It's been called historic, unprecedented, and surprising.

President Biden made a secret trip to Ukraine to mark one year since Russia invaded the country.

This is the first time an American president has visited an active war zone where the US

military is not involved in the conflict. Biden reflected on one year ago when he says the world

was bracing for the fall of the Ukrainian capital. But he praised the Ukrainians for their resolve,

saying, quote, one year later, Kiev stands, and Ukraine stands, democracy stands.

While he was there, Biden also announced another half billion dollars in American assistance for

Ukraine. The high stakes trip was kept confidential until the day of. Behind the scenes, White House

officials said the trip was many months in the making, since it required a huge security and

logistical effort given all the risks. It was considered especially risky. Since Ukrainian

officials have been warning, Russia is planning a large-scale bombardment time to the war's
