So today I'm approving an executive order to begin the hard work of restoring our

refugee admissions program to help meet the unprecedented global need. This

executive order will position us to be able to raise the refugee admissions back

up to 125,000 persons for the first full fiscal year of the Biden Harris

administration. That was present Biden in early February announcing a dramatic

expansion and the number of refugees his administration will admit into the

United States this fiscal year 125,000 up from a cap of just 15,000 that had

been imposed by his predecessor Donald Trump. It was it seemed then a clear

example of his commitment to ending the harsh anti-immigrant policies that have

been so aggressively pushed by Trump's guru on such matters Stephen Miller.

But when it came time for Biden to actually implement his new policy he

blocked overruling and passion please by his secretary of state Anthony Blinken

and other national security aids. Biden some of his aid say was worried about the

influx of young unaccompanied minors pouring into the country along the

southern border at record numbers and the ability of the government to

absorb thousands of refugees from elsewhere around the world fleeing

persecution war or oppression at home. We'll talk to Mark Hethfield of
