Hello and welcome to the Americano podcast, a series of discussions about American politics and now the Joe Biden presidency.

We will be looking at how a 78-year-old president

will change America and will be asking if normalcy, which is what he promised to bring,

has returned to American politics. The answer, of course, is no. I'm joined today by Jacob Harbrun, who is editor of the

national interest and a much-loved contributor to Spectator USA. And we are going to be talking about

Joe Biden's first few days in office, President Joe Biden, we should say.

Jacob Politico this morning did quite an amusing list of all the things that Biden said he

would do on day one. It became a sort of campaign phrase of his to say, on day one, I'm going to do

this. And he hasn't actually done

quite a few of them such as eliminating the trump tax cut also sending a bill to congress

repealing the liability protection for gun manufacturers and double tax on foreign profits on day

one that's just a few of them what did he do on and double tax on foreign profits on day one.

That's just a few of them.

What did he do on day one?

And what did you think of his first executive orders?

I thought Biden came out of the gate pretty swiftly.

Faster than I think previous presidents,

he issued record 17 executive orders.

And I thought the most striking thing was his repeal of the so-called Muslim ban and his proposal for sweeping immigration reform. Now he is

also pushing ahead on the pandemic, trying to federalize the response, which is something

that Donald Trump sedulously avoided as far as possible. And Biden, above all, is trying to push
