joins the dive into what the polling says as far as the Buildback Better Act is concerned,

and whether it shows any upside for moderates like Joe Manchin and Kiersten Sinimo when it comes to blocking that legislation.

It was first detected in Botswana and cases have now sprung up in South Africa, Belgium, the UK, and Hong Kong,

which means it's likely already in the US.

According to scientists, the variant will be more transmissible than the Delta variant,

which is now the dominant variant worldwide.

And I know that sometimes we can have very, very short memories,

but let's not try to forget that before the Delta variant, it legitimately felt like COVID was over.

People were going out, cases plummeted, the country was opening back up,

only to then get bombarded by an even higher number of cases and hospitalizations and deaths than we had before.

Like these variants are devastating.

And so the last thing that we should do here is pretend that we don't need to heed these warnings.
