Summary

President-elect Joe Biden warned that “more people may die” if Pres. Trump doesn’t start to cooperate with the transition process and it could potentially delay the rapid distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine when his administration takes over in January. More than 73,000 people are currently hospitalized with coronavirus in the United States, the highest number the country has seen. More than 247,000 Americans have died because of the virus. Dr. Thomas Frieden is a former CDC Director. He tells Anderson Cooper “it’s essential that there’s collaboration, communication and coordination to pass the baton.” Plus, Trump is showing little indication he plans to back off the false claim he won the election even as his legal challenges fizzle. Lawsuits that attempted to disrupt Biden’s wins in four states have been withdrawn. Mary Trump is Pres. Trump’s niece and the author of “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man.” She joins AC360 to react to her uncle refusing to accept reality and says his behavior continues to undermine people’s faith on the legitimacy of this election and the legitimacy of the incoming administration.   Airdate: November 16, 2020   Guests: Dr. Tom Frieden Mary Trump To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. Good evening. On a day the world got to celebrate the disability of a second vaccine that could

0:05.1

be ready to deploy in weeks, President-elect Joe Biden made it clear today during a speech

0:08.7

in Delaware that it takes more than just vaccines to end the pandemic. We have to cooperate

0:13.3

together. He said all of us, not just across party lines, but in his words, also cooperate

0:19.1

with the World Health Organization and the rest of the world in dealing with this.

0:23.2

Now the symbolism of the event couldn't be missed. It just met with two groups that famously

0:27.2

do not always get along, corporate leaders and labor unions. Biden's message was this,

0:32.4

if we want our businesses to fully reopen, if we want to resume our lives and put this

0:36.3

pandemic behind us, if we want to have not just a Thanksgiving in a Christmas, but as Biden

0:41.2

said, next Thanksgiving in Christmas, we have to do everything possible in spare no

0:46.1

effort to fight COVID. And that the American people have issued a mandate, said Biden,

0:51.7

quoting him, they want us to cooperate. They want us to deliver results, he said. He didn't

0:56.4

directly mention President Trump when he said those specific words, but he didn't have

1:00.3

to, at least at first. Because with the good news of a possible vaccine comes a need to

1:04.9

coordinate the distribution of it and the rising cases across the country call for coordination

1:10.4

between current government officials and the incoming administration. But that is not

1:15.3

happening. That is still not happening because the current president who will leave office

1:20.3

on January 20th, whether he likes it or not, is still blocking the incoming Biden team's

1:25.1

transition. President like Biden was asked about it this afternoon.

1:30.7

What do you see as the biggest threat to your transition right now, given President Trump's

1:34.3

unprecedented attempt to obstruct and delay a smooth transfer of power? More people may

1:40.3

die if we don't coordinate. Look, as my chief of staff Ron Claim would say, you handled
