I think we can all assume why Joe Biden visited Saudi Arabia recently. In fact, we

did show on why the world just can't quit Saudi oil. But it's interesting to

pull apart the other part of his journey, to Israel and very, very briefly to the Palestinian Authority.

Joining us to do just that is independent journalist Nogatarnopolsky.

She's written for everyone from the New York Times to the

L.A. Times, as well as many other international outlets. She's also been on the show,

for those of you have been listening for the last seven years, because she joined

us while the podcast was still at Reuters and we talked about what the impact of military service

was on Israel.

So why did Biden visit Israel now?

Was he just in the neighborhood?

Well, it's a good question,

and I have to say that I feel that most of the coverage

of his visit has been disappointing.

There was kind of, I would say, conventional thinking or a cliche that took over the coverage,

which is that his visits to Israel and to the Palestinian Authority were a mere fig leaf to cover up for an uncomfortable visit to Saudi Arabia and especially the encounter with you know the
