I guess how has the Biden administration viewed its task as far as you can tell which is to attempt to make immigration

somewhat rational. Yeah it's a real mixed bag. Look, there are some things that they have done to restore the

legal immigration system that are commendable and even expand it in many ways.

But when it comes to border policy their main objective is really no different than what we saw under the Trump administration, which is try to deport as many people as they possibly can who cross the border, regardless of whether they have a claim of persecution or fear of torture in their home country.

And so what we've seen since day one, you know, we talked about this executive order that recently dropped, but really since day one, they have imposed the most severe restrictions on asylum since we've had an asylum system in the United States.

And that started with Title 42, which was the health code law that they were using to quickly

expel people back across the border into Mexico. They did that several million times during the first two and a half years of their

presidency through May of 2023 and then once that period was over they then

replaced it with a a presumption against granting asylum.

It was a presumption that you are not going

to be eligible if you cross the border illegally and you could qualify

for some exceptions if you were going to be tortured in your home country.
