You know, both were kind of trying to run down the clock and see what happens.

You know, the running government wanted, you know, an extension.

The Taliban essentially wanted the US to leave without making any compromises.

But I'd argue that now the Taliban has zero incentive and we'll wait to see what happens.

They've given, you know, statements saying basically that they won't engage in peace talks

until all US forces withdraw and we'll see, you know, what their reaction is more so

in the coming days.

But I would expect to see, you know, zero movement on this.

On Wednesday, President Biden announced a full withdrawal of all US military personnel

from Afghanistan by September 11, 2021.

The withdrawal announcement comes as the US and Afghan governments have been trying to

reach a power sharing agreement with the Taliban.

Negotiations began in September 2020 because of an agreement reached in February 2020

when the Trump administration made an initial deal with the Taliban.

That deal said that the US would withdraw by May 1, 2021.
