It's Brian Lehrer, and this is my Daily Politics Podcast from WNYC Studios. It's Thursday, April 30th.

0:14.1

We'll get Rebecca Traster's take now on the sexual assault allegation against Joe Biden from former staff member Tara Reid. The Washington Post is now

0:24.8

calling on Biden to release sealed records from 1993 when Ms. Reed says the assault happened. The post says

0:33.2

there are no clear conclusions yet about what, if anything, happened, but they have, quote,

0:38.4

a desire for the public to know all that's able to be known, which ought to be in everyone's

0:44.2

interest, unquote, from the Washington Post editorial board. Ms. Reed says it happened when Biden was

0:51.0

a senator in 1993. She says he pinned her against a wall and penetrated her with

0:56.9

his finger. Several pieces of evidence have emerged in recent days that indicate at very least that

1:03.0

Reed was making the allegation at the time. One is the words of a neighbor from the time, Linda

1:09.8

Lacase, who says Reed told her of her claim at the time.

1:14.2

Lecase says she plans to vote for Biden over Trump, but thinks this should still be brought into the open.

1:20.8

Another piece of evidence is a tape purportedly of Tara Reid's mother calling into a CNN talk show at the time and appearing to

1:29.9

refer to the charge. We'll play that clip. Biden's campaign has denied that this ever happened,

1:36.4

but Biden has not addressed the charge personally. The New York Times headline today on the

1:41.9

story is Democratic frustration mounts as Biden remains silent

1:47.3

on sexual assault allegation. Rebecca Traster joins us now. She is the author of books, including

1:53.5

Big Girls Don't Cry, the election that changed everything for American women, and her latest

1:59.0

Good and Mad, the Revolutionary Power of Women's Anger.

2:03.1

She's also a New York magazine, staff writer, who now has an article called The Biden Trap.

2:08.4

As the candidate faces credible sexual assault allegations, his progressive female colleagues

2:14.3

are being offered a poison chalice. Hi, Rebecca, thanks for doing this with us.

2:18.6

Always good to have you on. It's great to talk to you, Brian. We'll get into the specifics of the case,
