I'm Maria Bear, alongside John Stone Street Street president of the Colson Center.

John, we just got word this morning. We're recording this Friday morning that the

Biden administration after two years of threatening to do so has put out its new rules regarding Title IX,

and I'm using the word rules on purpose.

So Title IX is a law that was passed by Congress that was meant to protect women's equal access in higher education.

For a couple of years now, it's kind of yo-yoed back and forth between presidential administrations in being interpreted in different ways, and the Department of Education will put out

interpretations of Title IX and they'll give suggestions on how it should be implemented, but what's really

seems to be happening is they're effectively changing the law because when you change, for

example, the definition of what a woman is, it's going to change a law that is directly regarding women.

So when the Associated Press, I thought this was interesting, when they posted the story

this morning, they said, Biden's new Title IX rules protect LGBTQ students.

Again, I think it's telling that they use the word rules because no administration is supposed to be making new rules.
