Is biblical literacy our biggest problem among believers in the Western church? Well, a lot of people say yes.

0:07.9

I used to think they might be right, but I've thought a lot about this. I've been listening,

0:12.6

watching, and considering it for a while, and I do not think this anymore. I think our biggest

0:18.1

problem is actually something else. It's something quite significant and runs even deeper. What do you think that is? Any ideas? We're going to talk all about it. And I plan to give clarity on the subject on Jesus over everything today.

There was an article written recently for Logos, a resource that I often use as a study and research tool for writing, making a case for why biblical literacy is the biggest problem in the church. And here's what it says. The Bible is more accessible today than in any generation to date. We can read it anywhere on our phones through apps, on our laptops,

1:01.4

over audio, or in a traditional printed copy. But having access to a Bible and actually reading

Church leaders striving to equip their congregations and invite them into the work of ministry

1:31.3

are finding people ill prepared with the word, which means they aren't prepared for ministry

1:36.0

at all.

1:36.5

It's no wonder church leaders are concerned about biblical literacy.

1:41.8

Well, I want to first say that there's a lot here that I agree with. In fact,

1:46.4

I really agree with all of it. I do think that many to most Christians don't understand the

1:53.1

Bible in its proper context. I think that we have had decades of seeker-focused churches in large scores versus discipleship-focused churches,

2:06.7

especially large ones.

2:09.5

And when you have that sort of emphasis, you inevitably get that type of a congregation, one that is sort of miles wide and centimeters deep.

2:23.0

And I think that's something certainly that I've talked about before.

2:26.2

I think many people have talked about before.

2:28.4

So I absolutely agree with that premise that there are a lot of believers who might own Bibles, might even be
