So you were a great choir by the way today. I don't know if you came to church planning on being the choir, but thank you.

And by the way, thank you for coming to church today because you know what's happening today?

The Honolulu Marathon.

You chose to come to church to hear the word of God instead of going to the

Hololulu Marathon either to run in it or to participate in it yeah now as for those who are not here today, I better not go there.

I just want to share with you a fond memory. Well, not so fond. Actually, it's just a memory.

Back when I was in Spokane, I was a lay pastor,

and I would fill in for my pastor. And they, every May, had a similar marathon to the Honolulu

Marathon called the Bloomsday Run. And it was in, you know, kind of the lilacs were in bloom.

And so they had this huge, you know, actually in some ways

bigger than the Honolulu Marathon.

And it was always on Sundays.

Don't give me started on that either. So my pastor would say, hey, you want to fill

in for me on Bloomsday Sunday? I'm like, might as well, nobody's going to be there.

Because the whole city would, anyway.

Speaking of which, yesterday, I just want to share this with you.

December 7th, which is Pearl Harbor Day, as you know.

21 years ago, in 2003,

I put my two young boys at the time, ages five and three, and my wife and I boarded a plane with boxes

and moved to Oahu to start this church 21 years ago yesterday.
