As the clock to the end of the transition period ticks down, businesses are turning their attention to preparing for the changes that are coming whether a Free Trade Agreement is reached between the UK and the EU or not. In this episode, we discuss the certainties of the Brexit changes that are coming, and what businesses should be doing now to prepare. Host Shalena Poffenberger is joined by Caroline Turnbull-Hall with a negotiations update, Andrea Als sheds light on the new UK Immigration regime, and Matthew Clark discusses how businesses need to prepare for new customs and tariff requirements.

Hello and welcome to the Beyond Brexit podcast. I'm your host, Shalina Poffenberger.

0:08.5

So much about our world and our economy has changed since our last podcast, and for a while,

0:13.9

Brexit seemed to have been put on the back burner. But rest assured, Brexit carries on. At this

0:19.4

midpoint in the transition period, three themes have emerged

0:22.4

that dominate the challenge for business, the operational and regulatory processes of moving goods,

0:28.2

moving people, and moving data across our borders. Joining me remotely today are Caroline Turnbull

0:33.8

Hall, who will bring us up to speed on the trade negotiations, Andrea Owls, who will discuss the new immigration system, and Matthew Clark, who will help unpack the complexities of moving goods across our borders.

1:26.3

and start looking at domestic preparations

1:29.2

for the end of transition. Well, we're now past the end of June, the two sides have engaged

1:35.3

in reinvigorated negotiations, and so that particular cliff edge has passed. But actually,

1:43.0

other than that, there's little certainty from the negotiations.

1:46.9

We had the first phase, which started in March and ran until June, and that went as far as it

1:53.1

could without any political intervention. The Prime Minister and the leaders of the EU institutions

1:58.7

met in mid-June, and they decided that the negotiations

2:02.9

needed renewed impetus. And as a result of that, we started the second phase of negotiations
