I'm Jessica Rosenthal. This week we spoke with Michigan Congressman Peter Meyer as he is now after just one term outgoing Republican Congressman of Michigan's third district.

He lost his primary this month to a man who worked in former President Trump's House in from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which spent money on ads highlighting

him, as Democratic groups have done in other races around the country in an apparent effort

to try to face a candidate they perceived to be easier to beat in the fall.

Meyer was one of 10 Republican House members who voted to impeach then President Trump after

January 6th.

We talked about that with him, his loss, his thoughts on his one term, and what's next.

You've been in Congress for just one term. I want to ask ahead of primary night did you have a sense or

what was your gut telling you going into primary night? You know I think we always

knew it was going to be close. We were definitely swimming upstream. It's worth noting that in addition to being a freshman member and, you know, casting some votes of conscience that were not always as well received as one might hope that the district

was 50% the one I was elected into in 2020 and 50% was new territory so new voters who had not
