0:06.0	be a Democrat? How about a Republican? Maybe a Christian shouldn't be either. There's been a movement since especially the election of
0:14.2	Donald Trump in evangelical circles to say that a middle way exists between
0:18.6	conservatism and liberalism by which a Christian can inhabit the moderate ground and engage culture in a more
0:25.8	sensitive way perhaps.
0:27.8	Now I remember a year ago I was at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary where I got
0:31.5	my MDive and the provost gave a speech about Shadrack,
0:35.2	Meishak, and a bendigo.
0:37.3	And he really made it clear in his application that state worship was wrong. And then he moved on and spent most of his time
0:44.7	saying that Christians should not align themselves too closely with the
0:48.1	Republican Party or conservative political philosophy or the Democratic Party and liberal political philosophy
0:54.8	because these things have idols in them and Christians should not worship
0:57.9	idols. Now I don't know whether this comes from ignorance or there is a nefarious
1:02.0	purpose. The reason I say from ignorance
1:04.2	is because if you know anything about American conservatism, Reed for instance the
1:07.8	conservative mind by Russell Kirk, you'll know that conservatism is biblical principles coming to us through hundreds of
1:14.5	years of tradition shaping it to apply to our context and they value things like
1:18.8	individual rights which is attached to responsibilities in a limited role for
1:22.2	government just like the Bible gives a limited role for government.
