So 58 years ago this month, a New England couple was driving home when they cited something strange

in the sky. The couple was Betty and Barney Hill and they became the subject of the first

widely reported UFO abduction in the United States. An extensive investigation followed

and the incident became the most famous reported case of alien abduction.

And that's what we'll be talking about on this episode of Jimmy Akin's Mysterious World.

Yeah. So Jimmy, as we just said, this was the first reported alien abduction?

Well, no, there were earlier cases. There seemed to have been a few reports of abduction before

the Kennel's Kenneth Arnold Siding of 1947, which we talked about in episode 46. After 1947,

there were many people who claimed to be taken aboard flying saucers. However, they were generally

voluntary trips on UFOs. So the people involved were called contactees rather than abductees,

because they were usually contacted rather than abducted by aliens. They sometimes claimed

the aliens they met were from nearby planets like Mars Irvina's, which is now really problematic

in hindsight. Sometimes they reported even being taken to these planets, and they had messages

of peace for mankind warning us about the dangers of atom moms and stuff like that. Many UFO
