Other players obviously behind them, but that's where I chose to draw the line.

But let's get into the guys that I like. The real deal contenders, in my opinion, for this award before the season starts. This isn't to say that these are the only guys that can win. It's just these are the guys that I would consider betting before the season starts, or at least maybe one of them. Aiden Hutchinson, the favorite has to be on the list because I do believe the lion's defense will be improved just based on the fact that they'll be healthier this year than they were last year, especially in the back half of the season. The way that Hutchinson's been playing in training camp, all the reports out of Detroit, it sounds like he's even better than he was prior to the leg injury that he had last season against the Cowboys. So Hutchinson, of course, is one of the guys.

He's the favorite. Will Anderson Jr. at 12 to 1. He is another real deal contender, in my opinion. Awesome pass rusher. Texans defense is supposed to be really good. Also, rave reviews about Anderson coming out of Texans camp that he might be even better than what we saw over the last couple of seasons. Nick Bosa is on this list as well.

If he can stay healthy, Robert Sala now is a defensive coordinator.

I think that's a guy who has big time pedigree already won the award a couple of seasons ago.

And then Jalen Carter, who everybody says like this guy is like the next guy in line at

the defensive tackle position.

And I agree with it. We all watch the games over the last two seasons, incredibly talented for a top-notch defense of Philadelphia coordinated by Vic Fangio. Why can't they be the best defense in the league? I mean, secondary is the big question mark there. But if the secondary works and Fangio kind of puts his magic on that thing, this defense might be as good as what we saw a season to go. So those are the real deal contenders amongst that group, the guy that I bet to win DPOI, it is Will Anderson Jr. at 12 to 1. I think Houston has the cleanest path to being an elite defense. They weren't kind of in the conversation with Denver last year, like, all right, who's the best defense in the league? I think they're going to be in that conversation once again this season. And Will Anderson, Jr. now in year three, it feels like he's kind of on like the Nick Bosa arc to where we saw in the full, the third full season for Nick Bosa, because I believe it was year two or year three where we had the ACL injury, then he came back, had a bounce back gear, and then it was after that when he had the defensive player of the year season.
