But we collected a few questions from some of the participating journalists that wanted Stephen Hawking

to answer those questions. So obviously they have been pre-recorded by him. And I would

ask some of those questions now, and I hope Stephen will be able to answer. So the first question was,

why are you hopeful that this initiative might bear fruit? It is sure to bear fruit.

Experimental astronomy is always worthwhile. If a search of this skill and sophistication finds no evidence of intelligence out there, that is a very interesting result.

It will not prove that we are alone, but it will narrow the possibilities, and it's likely to produce
