Summary
The dog that chases 2 rabbits catches neither.
It's an old phrase and saying that I've had in my head for the last 20 years.
I see it every single day with entrepreneurs.
If a dog is trying to chase 2 rabbits, he's only going to catch one if he focuses on just the one.
Two rabbits will run different directions.
Entrepreneurs tell me the same shit every single day.
They put their hands in all kinds of shit and can't seem to get shit done.
Focus on one thing.
Prioritize it and make it the main thing until you build it up to feed your other ventures.
Rinse and repeat.
Remember, a dog who chases two rabbits and catches none will starve.
Chase one rabbit, catch it and you'll never have to worry about eating again, ever.

| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the rewire podcast. I'm your host, Ryan Stumann, and I'm here to rewire your mind for success. |
| 0:07.3 | You were put on this planet for success. You were created to succeed, but the force of average is after you every single day, my brothers and sisters. |
| 0:15.7 | And this podcast is the one thing that's designed to help you fight the force of average and excel in |
| 0:21.8 | every area of your life. We're glad that you're here. The dog that chases two rabbits |
| 0:27.3 | catches neither. That's an old saying from like Confucius or somebody like that. I've been |
| 0:33.2 | reminding myself, it's a track. It's a sentence that's played in my head for decades now. |
| 0:38.6 | And I have this conversation probably in all reality twice a day with entrepreneurs. So it's |
| 0:44.8 | about time we have this conversation to the general broad audience that listens to rewire here. |
| 0:50.2 | And what does this mean? A dog that chases two rabbits catches neither, right? So if a dog's trying to catch two rabbits, two rabbits can run in different directions. The dog's not going to be, you just the dog can't catch two rabbits. But if the dog focuses on one rabbit, he can catch it and kill it. And then he can go chase the other rabbit if enough times left over and catch and kill it too. So he can catch them one at a time, but he can't catch them if he chases both of them. That ladies and gentlemen is a parable or a metaphor, however you want to look at it for your life as an entrepreneur. Twice a day, almost every day I'm having this conversation. Dude, my main hustle is good, but I got this side hustle and I want to go in on it. and then I can get the main hustle doing this and the |
| 1:27.8 | side hustle doing this. It's like you don't even have the main hustle focusing or functioning |
| 1:32.8 | optimal performance. So why would you start something else? This is why because we as entrepreneurs |
| 1:38.4 | were plagued with ADHD. And so, you know, the next new shiny object seems a lot easier and less boring and a lot more exciting than scaling and doing the boring work needed in what it takes to make our main thing even more powerful. |
| 1:54.6 | A lot of times we think, I'm going to put the main thing on autopilot and go build a new thing. |
| 1:58.7 | And that's crazy. Why don't you build the main thing? |
| 2:01.9 | Fuck putting it on autopilot. Build it. You chasing two rabbits. Very, very few people can |
| 2:08.1 | fucking accomplish that. I mean, we've got outliers like Elon Musk. But if you think about it, |
| 2:12.7 | you out there trying to run three, four different hustles, four or five different things, |
| 2:16.6 | you could have just focused on one and made more money than those three, four distractions are providing you at all. And most people miss this. They think, oh, it's an entrepreneur. I get to put my hands in all sorts of shit. And look, you can. I'm not shitting on that. I'm just saying the jack of all trades is the master of none. Yeah, I hear chasing two rabbits starving to death when you could just go chase one rabbit and eat that damn thing. So if you're out there and you're like, man, shit, you get five, six things working and you can't get nothing done and you're in between paychecks and you're in the struggle, man, quit focus on the five or six things. Prioritize your life. Pick one and see that motherfucker to the end. |
| 2:55.2 | That's the key. But most people, they miss that. And they keep chasing four or five trying to fix four or five things at once. Their attention is spread out. They're distracted. They're not |
| 3:00.3 | focused and honed in. They're not in the zone. Therefore, they never get the results that they could |
| 3:05.2 | in life because they never ate one rabbit. |
| 3:07.8 | They chased two. |
