0:00.0 | Hello everybody and welcome back to Red Menace. |
0:18.6 | All right, for this episode, Allison and I sort of, you know, jumped at the last minute to cover a very timely and very important, you know, current event that just occurred. |
0:27.9 | It was the death of Yaya Sinwar in northern Gaza. |
0:32.6 | I believe it was northern Gaza fighting against the IDF. |
0:35.6 | He was taken out. |
0:36.9 | It has been the main topic of discussion |
0:39.5 | amongst, you know, people on the Marxist revolutionary national liberation left, but also |
0:44.3 | across the board, as this is a huge sort of inflection point in this brutal conflict that's going |
0:51.6 | on right now. And so, Allison and I wanted to talk about Sinwar, talk about what we |
0:57.0 | can learn from the life of Sinwar, seeing him and framing him as a sort of Phanian, a quintessentially |
1:02.3 | fananian figure. We're going to talk a little bit about his life, about his death, you know, |
1:08.6 | and about his sacrifice, and what it might mean for the conflict going |
1:12.5 | forward. This is going to be a little organic conversation, obviously. It's just happened. We're |
1:17.3 | still wrestling with the emotions and like the ideas of the implications of what comes next. But, |
1:22.9 | you know, that's what I think Allison and I hopefully excel at is in these moments of inflection points historically that we can jump on here, you know, say some things that resonate with people emotionally and also help with the analysis of the current event, as well as pushing back against propaganda. And the propaganda that we're going to hear from liberals, but from people across the board, you know, it's very predictable. |
1:47.0 | It's going to go something like you are trying to glorify a jihadi, an Islamist who, whatever, fill in the blanks here, hated gay people, had, you know, terrible, regressive social views. |
1:59.7 | And this is the person that you're holding up as, as somebody that, you know, terrible, regressive social views and this is the person that you're |
2:01.4 | holding up as, as somebody that, you know, was heroic. And so we just wanted to touch on that |
2:07.1 | first and foremost before we get into his life. And I think that the way that we should think |
2:10.3 | about that is these people are fighting for their life, their land, and their future. |
2:16.6 | Or a comfortable westerner whose governments, |
2:19.4 | you're paying with your tax dollars to murder tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of people |
