Today, the day after Labor Day means the NFL's first week is just a few days away. The day after Labor Day marks the beginning of what we call in Sports Talk Radio high season. High season is football season, primarily

the NFL season, which gets underway Thursday night in Philadelphia,

and will continue for the next 21 weeks uninterrupted

before we get a week off between Championship Sunday and the Super Bowl.

It is for most of us the best five-plus months of the sports calendar.

There's a routine, there's a rhythm to football season.

Kids are back in school.

Everybody's back at work, and of course football every weekend, and many weeknights as well.

It goes quickly, you know, from the dying September dog days of summer, to those cool

leaf-changing, beautiful fall autumn days in October, to the beginning of holiday season and

Thursday, to the height of holiday season when it gets colder, and it seems like football

is on almost every day and every night.

Savor it, boys and girls, this time of year is the best.
