Summary

Today’s Best of Features:

(00:00-19:12) – The Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Mac Engel makes an appearance on the program to preview Arch Manning’s first test in college football at Ohio State, believes that Manning has all the tools to be a great quarterback, discusses the fallout between Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons, and calls it a joke of a deal for Jerry to make.

(19:12-43:25) – Kevin Bowen from The Fan Morning Show joins Query & Company to discuss the current roster for the Indianapolis Colts going into week one against the Miami Dolphins, explains why he feels differently than Jake as to how Chris Ballard operated in his press conference earlier in the week, agrees that Shane Steichen would be a reason why he would be confident in saying the Colts will make the playoffs, and previews the upcoming weekend in college football.

(43:25-55:00) – The IndyStar’s Kyle Neddenriep makes his weekly visit on the show to recap the first week of high school football from last week, previews some of the top matchups tonight in week two of the season, and comments on how concussion numbers are starting to go down at the high school level because of how coaches have changed fundamentals and practice regime over the last handful of years.

(55:00-1:04:57) – Taylor Tannebaum from ESPN & the ACC Network joins Jake Query from Clemson University to preview their huge game this weekend against LSU, gives the ACC perspective on Notre Dame as the Fighting Irish take on the Miami Hurricanes, and asks for people to help critters in need.

I just said it's a family ties theme here on the program today,

0:04.2

mostly because I just like talking about shows that had their peak 40 years ago.

0:07.9

Probably not unlike this one.

0:10.3

But as we get set for the weekend, we just talked to Brittany Force,

0:13.5

and of course her family connection to not only John Force,

0:16.8

but her brother-in-law, Graham Ray Hall, U.S. Nationals this weekend.

0:20.7

And in college football, everything getting underway this weekend.

0:24.9

Last night, a big win for U.N.D. over Marion.

0:28.0

Wyoming got a 10-0 win over Arkansas, or excuse me, over Akron at Akron,

0:32.2

which I think counts as a half a win.

0:35.4

Still a win, Jake.

0:36.8

He blanked Akron, who, if I'm not mistaken, when Indiana beat Akron in seven overtimes, Tom Allen kicked over two trash cans and carried off a trophy. People were like, what are we doing here? They're like 285th in the college football. A one, a two. You know what to do. That's right. That's exactly what he did.

0:58.0

But the big one in college football this weekend is going to be Ohio State in Texas.

1:03.9

And Arch Manning with some family ties when it comes to Indianapolis because not only Peyton Manning, but now everybody and their brother is convinced that the Colts are going to make the march for Arch,

1:08.6

as if they're the first team to think of that little riddle.

1:11.6

Joining us now to talk about that and the Cowboys in the news. He is with the Fort Worth Star Telegram. He is a return guest to the program. He is Mack Engel. Hello, Mac. Jake, it's good to hear your voice, sir. How are things in my hometown, Indianapolis, Indiana? You know, here's the excitement that I've had in the last couple of weeks.

1:09.7

You were home, what was it, two or three weeks ago you were home? I'm not supposed to say this. Yeah, that's right. And so you and I get a bite to eat, and then, I don't know, probably a week after that, I thought, you know what? That's kind of a cool place we went.

1:44.9

So I happened to be in the area and I went back in there a couple of days.

1:47.7

Shannon and I went in there and the gal that waited on us says, oh, I remember you.

1:53.2

And I said, oh, well, that's very flattering.

1:54.7

Thank you.

1:55.1

You know, I do a radio, a dog and pony show here in town.
