We've been waiting for this to happen. Mackenzie Gore is on the move. He has been traded to the Texas Rangers in a five-for-one deal. A handful of prospects coming back to the Washington Nationals. This move for the Washington Nationals needed to happen.

If you are going the route of the rebuild, which they are, if you are going to be making the decision

all offseason that you're spending no money on the parent club, that you are going with

youth, you hired a 33-year-old manager of very young coaching staff, everything they've done

is signaled this is a complete reboot and that they're tearing this thing down and

redeveloping from the minor league level up.

You have two assets worth anything.

Mackenzie Gore with two years of control left and C.J. Abrams with three years of control left.

Both of those were your trade chips this offseason that you could use to add significant talent to the minor leagues and reboot. There's not going to be a Juan Soto deal happening. That was a generational once-in-a-lifetime deal. But you can make a trade for four or five pieces with a Gore, which they did. You can make a trade, if you're C.J. Abrams, for three or four pieces, which it sounds like they've done. But I think this was a no-brainer for Paul Toboni. You had to move McKenzie Gore, especially. When you start to look at some of the market establishment of starters, Freddie Peralta was traded to the Mets by the Brewers last night, and the brewers were able to net two of the top prospects in the organization, you could just tell because starting pitchings at a premium, because there aren't

quality options on the free agent pile. There's nobody as good as McKenzie Gore still available

in free agency. And he's cheap. He's still on his first deal. He's got two years left. It's

arbitration numbers, but he's still very, very cheap considering the overall talent. So teams would

be desperate to add a guy like that. The Rangers have a good system. I'm fascinated to see who the overall talent. So teams would be desperate to add a guy like that.
