Summary

When Berlin fell in April-May of 1945 under the Russian onslaught, Adolph Hitler and his new bride Eva Braun, as the story went for years, committed double suicide- he by a gunshot to his head, and she by cyanide. The story continued that their bodies were carried outside of their bunker and set ablaze by their personal guards. For years the Russians kept the whereabouts of their corpses a secret, and conspiracy theories abounded. Some said they had escaped by plane or submarine to South America, Others said that Hitler's body double, not Hitler, was the body that had been burned. Author Robert Hutchinson with his new book The Death of Hitler, examines the evidence and delivers the true story of what happened to Hitler and Braun as well as the stories of the attempted assassinations of Hitler which came very close to ending his life and his atrocities, had it not been for what many call "the luck of the devil".

0:34.8	And today we have a very special guest with us, author Robert Hutchinson,
0:39.0	who has just released the book, What Really Happened, The Death of Hitler. And everyone who has any
0:43.8	interest at all in World War II history has heard the rumor that maybe Hitler didn't die in that
0:48.9	bunker. And this book is an extremely fascinating book that really sheds a light on what did happen in that
0:55.2	German bunker all those years ago, and the fact that Hitler may very well have survived. According to
1:01.6	official accounts and numerous eyewitnesses, the dictator of the Third Reich shot himself. While Nazis
1:07.2	burned his body and the bones were removed by the Russians. Yet, after World War II,
1:12.8	50% of Americans' poll did not believe the captured Nazis who said Adolf Hitler and
1:17.7	Eva Braun had committed suicide in their Berlin bunker. They thought the purer had faked his
1:23.3	death and escaped justice. Joseph Stalin himself told allied leaders that Soviet forces never
1:29.7	discovered Hitler's body and that he believed the Nazi leader had gotten away. There were numerous
1:35.2	reports of top Nazi officials successfully fleeing to South America. Incredible as it sounds,
1:41.4	the mystery surrounding Hitler's final days only deepened in 2009
1:45.6	when a U.S. forensic team announced that a piece of the skull held in Soviet archives was not actually Hitler's.
