You know, the secret to a successful ad is not necessarily a crisp, clear and glossy voice

that interrupts your podcast. You can advertise your business on TikTok starting with nothing but your phone.

TikTok means business.

And that creates some gray area and some ambiguity in ways that can make it harder to push back

against, to kind of highlight the problems with that kind of messaging and how easy it is for

men and particularly young men who might be feeling some precarity themselves to see that as a

sort of a model of, you know, this is a way to get status for themselves.

And certainly what the kind of the model of masculinity that the folks like Tate are promoting is very much dependent on having a wife at home or having a woman at home who can take care of the cleaning, take care of the cooking.

And that defines kind of men's status in society in part based on, you know, having a doting

wife, ideally, you know, a highly attractive wife who can do all of that work behind the scenes

while he goes off and make the whole lot of money in the process. And so it's easy, especially in a highly

unequal society, a highly kind of precarious society where men face a lot of pressure to be

the breadwinners and to find those high paying jobs or to compete with other men for status and for

respect. It's easy to see that kind of model of masculinity that Tate is putting out there as, you know,
