Today I wanted to talk about a long read by Nazarene Malik called Is This Justice?

Why Sudan is facing a multi-billion dollar bill for 9-11?

This is one of those stories that you usually only hear one side.

In this case, the families of people who were killed in the attack on the World Trade Centre on 9-11.

The piece opens with the families talking about their terrible losses

that very heroic people who one of them tried to actually foil one of the attacks

so it was one of the people who invaded the cockpit

and stopped the plane from going into the Pentagon.

So extraordinary people who died in a terrible way

and this is their families who've got together in pursuit of justice.

They're suing for damages in an action called 9-11 Families United to Bankrupt Terrorism.

And you start the story thinking this is obviously very understandable

and worthy thing to do.

And then Nazarene looks at the other side of the story,

which is the people of Sudan who are listed amongst those terrorists who have been sued for damages.

And Sudan obviously has been under sanctions from the US and other states for years now

as a state sponsor of terrorism because they hosted bin Laden
