Welcome to the Eat This Not That podcast, brought to you by Bob's Red Mill. I'm John Hammond, and this is Megan Murphy. Hey, guys. And in this episode, we're going to highlight some of the foods that you should stock up on to fortify your immune system and fight back against cold and flu season, because it's coming. It's coming fast. And it was rough last year, right? I think it's getting more rough every year, it seems like. Or at least the news coverage of it is getting progressively. A little more dramatic. A little more tabloidish, if you will. And it's, you know, it's funny. It's like, do you get a flu shot? You know, I did a couple years ago, but then I got really bad side effects and sick afterwards. So I was kind of like, forget this, but then I didn't. And then two years later, I got the flu. So some people, some people don't, you know, some people have a bad reaction to it. Some people just don't like getting shots. My kids, first and foremost, I take them. So I, I've avoided the flu shot for years and years and years and just started getting it again recently, mostly because I have two little boys. Yeah. And they're terrified of, needles, of course. I said, Daddy's got to do it first. So we got to sit there and just kind of like team effort and I got to gut through it. But it's just like, I get it. It's like, I just took my six-year-old Dylan for his checkup, and the doctor was like, you want to get a flu shot while you're here. And he looks at me and I'm like, yeah, definitely. Like, let's do it. And you would have thought that I was like taking him to the guillotine, right? Like not to like get a shot. Like I had a black hood on. He was like on the floor trying to hide in the car. And we're just in like a little doctor's office.

trying to hide in the, and we're just in, like, a little doctor's office. Like, there's nowhere to hide. And I said to him, like, there's nowhere, you have nowhere, you have nowhere to go. And then, and then you just kind of get to, you know, it's like, I try, you know, positive reinforcement. I'm like, hey, if you stand up and just kind of do this like a big boy, like we'll go to sunny days,

1:45.2

we'll get ice cream after this. And then I try negative. I'm like, hey, if you stand up and just kind of do this like a big boy, like, we'll go to sunny days, we'll get ice cream after this. And then I try negative. I'm like, if you

don't get up and do this, you won't have dessert for like two weeks. You know, and then I try like apologizing and comforting. And it's just like, so, like, it's whether you, whether you hang up about a flu shot is about needles or about a bad reaction, it doesn't matter. Like,

2:01.7

you should consult your doctor, of course, whether or not you need a flu shot is about needles or about a bad reaction, it doesn't matter. Like, you should consult your

2:02.6

doctor, of course, whether or not you need a flu shot or, you know, dealing with the flu and how to

2:08.3

deal with that. However, in addition to the flu shot, there are some foods that can actually help

2:12.7

strengthen your immune system and hopefully ensure that it's sturdy enough to swap back, you know, the common cold

2:19.1

or mitigate some of the symptoms.

2:21.8

If you do get sick, a lot of these can help kind of like soften the blow, if you will,

2:25.5

and actually shorten the lifespan of the colder flu.

2:29.9
