Summary
When you're at the gas station filling up, which credit card should you be using for that purchase? We used to value Wyndham points around 1 cent each, which made the Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Card, which earned 8 points per dollar at gas stations, a clear winner. But recent data has bumped that value down to about .7 cents, making it less of an obvious choice. So, which card should you consider for buying gas instead?
(01:19) - Citi Custom Cash® Card 5x (7.5%), up to $500 per billing cycle
(02:34) - American Express® Business Gold Card 4x (6.2%)
(03:53) - Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Card 8x (5.6%)
(04:41) - Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards credit card with platinum honors preferred rewards (5.25%): up to $2500 per qtr
(05:24) - Sams Club Mastercard 5% (up to $6K per year)
(05:51) - Costco Anywhere Visa 5% at Costco, else 4% (up to $7K)
(06:19) - Citi Strata Premier℠ Card 3x (4.5%)

| 0:15.6 | miles and points. And each coffee break is limited to 20 minutes or less or your money back. |
| 0:23.0 | On today's coffee break, we're going to be figuring out what is the best credit card to use for gas spend. |
| 0:30.4 | So you're at the gas station, which card should you whip out to get the most rewards? |
| 0:35.5 | So one of the things that's changed recently is the Wyndham points, we used to have |
| 0:42.4 | our reasonable redemption value for Wyndham points being around one cent each. And that made the |
| 0:47.7 | Wyndham earner business card, which gets eight points per dollar at guest stations. That made that |
| 0:53.2 | the clear winner of, you know, |
| 0:56.1 | cross cards of which you should use for guest spend. But with new data, we reevaluated the |
| 1:01.7 | reasonable redemption value and it's come down to 0.7 cents per point. And that's really changed |
| 1:07.5 | what the sort of average value of earning eight points per dollar becomes. |
| 1:13.9 | And so it's not the clear winner anymore. So what is? Let's talk through our options. |
| 1:19.4 | Well, we've got a whole bunch of different options. And some of these you may have even been |
| 1:23.0 | considering before because they were relatively close with our valuation for Wyndham points. |
| 1:30.0 | But let's talk about them. |
| 1:31.1 | So first up, we have the city custom cash, which is very popular amongst the folks who have |
| 1:36.3 | it because it offers five points per dollar on a single category, every billing cycle, |
| 1:42.4 | the category in which you spend the most, up to $500 |
| 1:45.8 | in purchases per billing cycle. So you could use your custom cash just at the gas station |
| 1:52.0 | and earn 5x on up to $500 per billing cycle per month, sort of. So that's what, if we value our |
| 1:59.7 | city points at around one and a half cents per point, that's like 7.5% back on up to $500 a month over the course of the year. |
