Summary

In this episode of The Remnant Radio, Dr. Colin Smothers from the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood is coming on the show to discuss women in ministry. However, Dr. Smothers is not going to be giving an egalitarian presentation. Colin will be our very first Complementarian discussing this topic. Our discussion will be anchored in Genesis 1-3 and I am sure we will be visiting 1 Timothy 2 as well, as we discuss the complementarian arguments seen in scripture through the created order of...

This is Joshua Lewis with the Remnant Radio. Thank you so much for tuning in today. Got an exciting episode. We're going to be talking about complementarianism. We've got Dr. Colin Smothers. Am I saying the last name right? Smothers? You got it. Nailed it. On the other line, and we're going to be discussing complementarianism. He is coming from the Council of Manhood and Womanhood. Dr. Wayne Grudham and John Piper helped put this organization together, and we're going to be hearing from him today. But before we get into it, Michael, how's your week been, man? Fantastic. What's new this week? I don't know. What have I done? I did this every week, Michael. Well, normally I have something to contribute, and this week I have no idea what I've done. It's been a good week. Oh, I preached at a church. Romans 9? Yeah, I preach on Romans 9 at New Horizon Vineyard in Rockwall, or I guess it's Wiley, Texas, I think is actually the name. Give me the honor for it, and what we'll do is we'll put on the podcast for Romans 9, and then everybody who's listening can hear you preach Romans 9. Yeah, I'm a little scared about that. Yeah, you're going to hear me preach and, you know, throw the pastor into the bus while I was there. It is a non-complementary, it's a non-complementary view of Romans 9. non-deterministic interpretation. It's a non-complementarian view of Romans 9. It's a non-deterministic interpretation of, yeah, yeah. View of Romans 9, which is, which is, it was decent. I've talked to you. You haven't listened to it. You don't know if it's decent. We've been talking about this for months. Well, still, I mean, there's a presentation involved as well, so. It's been fun. Anyway, big week in the lewis home uh rayma my daughter first

Before we get into the conversation, too far, Colin, tell us a little about your ministry and yourself, so our audience can kind of familiar ourselves with you before we jump into the conversation. Sure. As you mentioned, my name is Colin Smothers. I'm the executive director of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood. That's a mouthful.

CBMW for short. I've been in this role since 2017. CBMW was founded back in 1987 under the leadership of John Piper and Wayne Grudham and a handful of other evangelicals.

3:09.8

So it's pan evangelical.

3:13.6

It's not, you know, under one denomination per se.

3:14.0

Sure.

3:21.0

But it was largely in response to what they detected as feminism creeping into evangelicalism and sort of undermining some of the more traditional and biblical as they saw

3:26.5

it, roles of men and women in the home of the church. So out of that foundation came the

3:32.8

Danvers statement on biblical manhood and womanhood, released that year in 1987, which many churches,

3:39.7

denominations and organizations have adopted as their own.

3:43.5

And it sort of defines that million-dollar word complementarianism or complementarian.
