I am Tom Curran, and I'm honored today to have Benjamin Watson, former Patriots, former

saint, former Raven on the podcast, former nominee for the Walter Payton Manly Year,

author of a book called Under Our Skin,

which came out in 2015, one of the most insightful citizens in these United States on the

topics of race and an absolute thought leader in my estimation whose voice is vital at this

particular time.

You know, I'm going to, before we have him in, read to you what he wrote in November of 2014

in the wake of the Michael Brown situation that unfold in Ferguson, Missouri.

And at that point, Benjamin Watson wrote on Facebook,

quote, I'm angry because the stories of injustice that have been passed down for a generation

seem to be continuing before our very eyes. I'm frustrated because pop culture, music,

and movies glorify these types of police citizen altercations

and promote an invincible attitude that continues to get young men killed in real life,

away from safety movie sets and music studios.

I'm fearful because in the back of my mind, I know that although I'm a law-biting citizen, I could still be looked upon as a, quote, threat, end quote, to those who don't know me.

So I will continue to have to go the extra mile to earn the benefit of the doubt.
