Why concern oneself with a certain spirituality?

-God has given us different gifts and talents

-understanding which spirituality speaks to us can help us discern God’s will

What is the difference?

The spiritualties, in and of themselves, all represent an orthodox approach to the faith, and while there is much overlap between them, each one puts an emphasis on different aspects of the faith

How do choose?

What are your primary struggles? One might help present a more direct path toward overcoming

Which one fits your personality type? Brings you closest to God?

Benedictine

Ora et Labora – Work and Pray

-Structured Prayer

-Very liturgical

Franciscan

Franciscan spirituality is “very simple and very personal and very devotional,” explains Father Benedict Groeschel, C.F.R., “Devotional [means] it is related to personal individual prayer to Christ and Our Lady and their presence in our life.” an “emphasis on simplicity, humility and care of the poor; it’s not a complex spirituality.”

-Finding God in nature

-an emphasis on the good of creation more than the evil of sin

Dominican

Laudare, Benedicere, praedicare – The praise, to bless, to preach

Do you love to study and have a passion for explaining the faith through writing and speaking? Then consider the Dominican way.

“Dominican spirituality derives from the reality that anything that is true points to God the Creator, and therefore all learning, knowledge and understanding ultimately teaches us about God.” says Dominican Father Fred Lucci, director of the All Saints Newman Center at Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz.

Dominican spirituality, is ultimately a path to God through the search for knowledge, contemplation of that...
