In 2003 right after I had shot Dodgeball the cast and directors of Dodgeball,

Jule Bester, and Cheating McCarthy, my favorites. They offered me a little part in a movie called Ankerman,

the exciting job to get. But the most exciting part of it was getting to work with Fred Willard.

I was to play Fred Willard's son. Fred and I did a bunch of improvs where we established that the

character was 12 and I remember after we do a scene, he was quite shy. He would go and kind of like

be by himself and I could see him talking to himself. I remember asking him what he would do in

between takes and he said, I'm just working out what I want to say. So I started doing that just

to keep up with him and at one point I thought I had a really funny line that I said in the scene.

I'm a man now I got hair on my chest and I lifted up my shirt and he squinted and he studied it and

he said, I'm sorry I forgot my magnifying glass. I could only see one or two hairs there and everybody

started just cracking up, everybody lost it. And it was such a lesson. You can't totally prepare

for those things. You can't write all the improvs ahead of time. You also have to be in the moment

and he was one of the best of all time and I'm forever grateful that I got to work with him.
