This week on the business, almost every industry is hurting right now, but there truly is no business like show business, where there isn't much business at all.

We'll talk about how the changing entertainment industry, plus the tanking economy, are putting people below the line

under the gun. But first, on the Hollywood news banter, are this summer's blockbusters going bust?

Matt, what's up?

Well, after being postponed from February, TV's conversion to digital finally went into effect last Friday.

Yes, and so. Well, I have a theory

about this, and that is, since now you can get great quality, high-definition television by

just having an antenna on top of your TV, that many people will get rid of their cable boxes,

save that cost, and watch more broadcast broadcast TV and broadcast ratings will go up.

I see. And they will give up ESPN and they will give up curb your enthusiasm and not to

mention, Matt, you know, a lot of porn.

Well, both the perverts and the intellectual elite may not give up their cable boxes. but even if 1% of Americans who have cable or satellite give it up because of this, that's a very significant number, and it will stanch the trend of diminishing broadcast TV numbers.
