Her husband David Temple said he was out with their son when someone broke in.

The police didn't believe him, but building a case would not be easy.

I'm Charlie and welcome to Crime Lines. This is a two-parter and this is part two of that two-parter.

So if you accidentally clicked on this one without listening to

part one you're gonna want to back up and spend an hour with that episode before

coming back to this one. When we left off with the last episode, a grand jury had concluded in April of 1999, three months after

30-year-old Belinda Temple had been murdered.

No indictment was handed down, though it doesn't seem like they really expected to get one.

They were using the process to get witnesses on the record before memories faded,

and while they still continued to investigate.

There was some physical evidence that had been sent out to the FBI lab for testing, but this evidence

was not an immediate priority for the testing, but this evidence was not an immediate priority for the overtaxed lab.

So the authorities in Texas basically had no choice but to just take a number and wait. They were also hoping they would

uncover a key piece of evidence they were missing and that was the murder

weapon. They had not found it but that was not for lack of trying.

The investigators believed that David, if he killed Belinda, would have had time to get rid of the gun
