Summary

This week we go back to an interview that Matt and I did back in January 2012. This was when the cruise ship Costa Concordia sank off the coast of Italy. We interviewed a passenger who was on the ship at the time of sinking and he gave us a play-by-play of what actually happened.

And Ian was on the ship when it happened. We had a chance to interview him

0:21.8

right after the accident. And he gave a really compelling story. And he told everything from

0:27.3

the first initial impact when the ship hit the rock and it made his 160 foot long gash on the

0:33.8

side of the ship to boarding the life votes to looking back on it and what that

0:37.9

whole process was like it's a really good interview but i want to unpack this a little bit just

0:42.2

before we get to ian so costa concordia it was leaving rome and if you you're probably wondering

0:48.0

what kind of ship is that it's comparable to carnival splendor so same size ship there it was

0:53.1

leaving rome and heading to Savona

0:54.8

on a seven-night Mediterranean cruise. When the captain took the ship off course because one of the

1:00.3

officers on the ship was from the island of Gileo, so the captain diverted the course to go closer

1:05.5

to Gileo to do a sail-by. Doing so, he hit this rock. It made a hole in the side of the ship and then kind of things

1:13.2

went downhill from there now this captain is a complete disaster he got charged with looking back

1:18.4

32 counts of manslaughter abandoning ship because he said he fell into a lifeboat and then he

1:24.4

got charged with causing a maritime accident so he's locked up for 16 years now so

1:28.6

that's pretty much the story in a nutshell now we'll get to the interview with ian dunoff he was a

1:32.8

passenger on board costa concordia when it went down in january of 2012 ian donnoff from southwest

1:40.2
