Welcome back. We are halfway through our first week discussing gratitude and happiness.

But can you measure and predict happiness?

So of course these days there's lots of research on this quest for

happiness that we have to do something in order to be happy and there's even

something that social scientists call the happiness formula.

H is equal to S plus C plus V.

The letter H stands for happiness.

S stands for set point.

Your attitude to the world is the world an opportunity

or the world a problem.

This set point apparently determines 50% of your daily happiness

experience 50% just your attitude to life and this at point was actually programmed to your mind when you were a child.

So if your parents were always complaining condemning, criticizing, playing the victim. You grow up to be an

unhappy person with an unhappy such point. If on the other hand your parents, scare-takers,

give you attention, affection, appreciation, acceptance,

then you have a different set point for happiness.

This set point can be changed through reflective self-inquerie and through

cognitive therapies and also through meditation and mindfulness and mindful awareness.

The second part of the happiness formula,

C, conditions of living,

contributes about 12 to 15% of your daily happiness experience.

Usually has to do with material conditions, money, etc, job.
