I'd like to draw our attention to a single verse from our upcoming Wednesday night study, as we often do.

It's Matthew 27, and we'll just read this little verse to kind of kick off our discussion.

It's Matthew 27, verse 36.

It says, and sitting down, they watched him there.

Again, and sitting down, they watched him there. Again, and sitting down, they watched him there. Who's sitting and who are they

watching? Well, we're at what some people call the holy of holies of the whole Bible. How could you say that,

Brett? Well, the whole Bible is the story of humanity. God created humanity,

and in the first 10 seconds of humanity, we dropped the ball and sinned against God and were fallen

in a horribly messed up state. And the rest of the Bible is God's love for humanity

and his plan to reconcile sinful, broken, doomed humanity,

reconcile back to himself because he loves us so much.

That's what the whole Bible's about.

But the pinnacle of that work that God does

to redeem all of humanity to himself

was right here in Matthew chapter 27.

That's why they call it the

holy of holies of all the scripture because it's where Jesus Christ, who's God in the flesh,

God becomes a man, not just any man, but a servant made himself of no reputation and then was

beaten up by man. He allowed himself to be tortured by man and crucified on a cross

for the sins of the same people that's beating him.

He willingly went to the cross.

And so we have this chapter, this story in front of us,
