Getting settled into a new apartment takes time, but for Megan and her family, this never happened.

Someone, or something, was already living there, long ago.

My name is Edwin, and here is Megan's true, scary story.

Back in 2017, we originally lived in Florida, and we wanted to make a fresh start,

and I already had a sister that lived in El Miron, New York.

We just up and moved. We didn't even have a place to live at that point.

We just wanted a fresh start, so once we made it to El Miron, my sister introduced us to this very

well-known landlord. We went to his office to talk to him and to see if he had anything

available as soon as possible, and he said the only thing he had at this very moment was the

apartment next door to his office. He said that the downstairs was a but the upstairs was an

apartment, but they're two separate like duplexes. When we walked over to the house to view it,

the first thing I noticed was the historical plaque that read about. It was built in the 1830s,

and the landlord decided to tell us that is where Mark Twain used the groceries stop,

because he had family in El Miron, New York, and he also was buried in El Miron, New York.

It used to be a grocery store back in the late 1800s.

As we're touring the house, I just had this gut wrench feeling uncomfortable,

and I thought at first it was first apartment time jitters because we've never had an apartment.

I'm looking at all the rooms. In the rooms, they have the dressers basically built into the wall

that's original at the house, and the carpets are original in the house. Everything was pretty much

still the same just besides him remodeling the kitchen a little bit. In the living room,

it was different because there was a tiny little, it could have been a closet attached to it.

I ended up hurting that into my kids' playroom.
