welcome to Behind the News. My name is Doug Henwood. Two segments today. First Tim

Schorock will update us in the two careers and then at the bottom of the hour the writer and activist Margaret Corvid will talk about British politics after last week's electoral surprise.

First, the Korea's, in the southern part of the peninsula, a corrupt, reactionary, and deeply unpopular President Park Junhe was impeached and marched

and replaced by Moon Jayin, who was elected in early May.

And the North keeps testing missiles as the U.S. political and media establishment

rattled their sabers.

Here's Tim Schrock, a journalist who grew up in South Korea

who's been writing about the country for over three decades

to explain it all to us.

Let's talk about the two careers.

Starting in the south, you've just been there for a couple of months,

and there's been a presidential succession,

well, first an impeachment,

then a succession.

What led to the impeachment?

What led to it was a people's movement

against probably the most unpopular South Korean president

in decades.

And deep, deep anger and unhappiness over a whole slew of policies that this government
