According to Household Pulse and experimental bi-weekly survey of US households

by the Census Bureau,

employment growth, which was mostly brisk from April through July, looks to have slowed since.

That makes sense, the easy recalls have happened, and now the story shifts to the long-term displaced.

And almost all the aid has ended even Trump's pathetic extension of

emergency unemployment benefits by executive order. Never generous nor

robustly financed, they're now slowing to a trickle. New applications for employment insurance have been

drifting lower, as has the number of drawing benefits, but the figures are still

quite high. Over 23 million if you combine traditional programs with the expanded

pandemic assistance that covers

freelancers and others usually outside the system.

Meanwhile, negotiations between the administration and Congress for a new rescue package have collapsed
