two-guessed lineup. Joel Shalit explains what's driving Israel's war on

Gaza and Amy Schiller offers a

critical view of the philanthropy game. The news and imagery from Gaza are

horrifying. What is motivating Israel's brutality which seems unhinged even by

its own bloody standards.

To investigate that, we're joined by a longtime friend and frequent behind the news guest, Joel Shalit.

Joel is an Israeli-American journalist now living in Turin after over a decade of living in Germany.

Few of us have two homelands. He's in exile from both.

Joel is the editor of the battleground, which aims to be a voice of calm truth-telling on European society and politics.

He also comments on EU, German, and Italian affairs for the Israeli broadcaster I-24

news. His books include Israel versus Utopia, the anti-capitalism reader, and Jerusalem calling.

Joel Shalit. What are Israel's goals in this war on Gaza? It's kind of hard to read sometimes

other than just a ride of destruction. The government has signaled that it at the very

least wants to level and reoccupy Gaza. It's not clear to what degree it will have to adjust to the fact that there will still be people there and that they're going to need social services and housing and health care.

We don't know what they're going to do about that.

This is an extremist government full of people

who would be very happy if,
