Two guests today first and second the scholar writer and activist Leondres

Fisher will talk about German politics with an emphasis on the refugee issue.

And at the bottom of the hour, Samuel Moyne, a professor of law and history at Yale,

will explain why the Supreme Court sucks and what we can do about it.

In an election held on Sunday October 15th,

voters in the German state of Bavaria shunned the two dominant parties, the Christian

Social Union, the local affiliate of the National Christian Democrats, and the Social Democratic Party.

The Greens did surprisingly well, and the right-wing alternative for Deutschland, AFD,

outpold the Social Democrats.

That election came a day after a quarter of a million turned out for a demonstration in Berlin,

one of the largest in the country's history, against xenophobia and in favor of social solidarity.

More controversially, this past summer, Sarah Vagenkcht, a leader of the Left Party

D. Lincoln, Lincoln is the German word for the left, founded a group called Aufstein, which means stand-up,

which aims, among other things, to lure voters who have drifted to the right

thanks to the rise of the AFD towards the left agenda.

For this, she and her colleagues, notably her political and romantic partner Oscar La Fonten, have been denounced as soft on xenophobia.

Here is Leandro's Fisher, a member of De Linka, and a postdoctoral researcher based in

Hamburg working on refugees and solidarity networks to explain.
