Jeat here will talk about politics in the Indian American community in light of the presidential

campaigns of two of its members, Nicky Haley and Vivek Ramswami.

And then we'll hear from Steve Mar and Scott Aquano, authors of the fall and rise of American

finance just out from Verso.

The presidential campaigns of Vivek Ramswani and Nicki Haley have brought Indian Americans

to a new level of political salience.

Jeed here, National Affairs Correspondent for the Nation, has an article in the February edition of the magazine, which has gone from weekly and monthly, reflecting the pressures on print these days, on the two candidates and the larger role of the Daisy diaspora in American society.

He opened the piece with a quote from Tony Morrison that it's a right of passage for immigrants to become haters.

She is specifically saying

haters of black people but it does seem to be a broader palette of hate objects

today. Talk about this history of how assimilation into American culture involves becoming a

hater of sorts.

I quoted 20 Morrison and I could have actually quoted

there's a famous anecdote about Malcolm X at the airport talking to someone and there's a bunch of white

kids that are coming out of the airplane and he said look at them they're coming from

Europe and soon they're going to learn their first words as an American. The N-word.

Unfortunately, this has been part of the story of immigration. I think

listeners will be familiar with the more positive view of immigration, you know,

the Ellis Island story, you know, America is a nation of immigrants that's true like
