For the first half of November delegates from around the world met in Glasgow at the annual

UN-sponsored climate conference.

In the strange language of diplomacy, the series of meetings is known as the conference of parties

abbreviated as COP or COP.

And since this was the 26th meeting in the series, it was known as COP26.

COP26 was supposed to have been held in April 2020,

but COVID made that impossible, so it was postponed for a year and a half.

The conference couldn't be described as a resounding success,

although there were some things that an optimist could seize on as hopeful.
