Summary

I want to talk with you some more about ways we can become less distracted. We can get distracted so easily because there are so many things that we don't want to miss out on. What if we spent a little more time focusing on one thing at a time rather than many things at once? Undistracted releases March 1, 2022 and I hope it helps you focus more on what matters and less on the things trying to distract you.  You can preorder your copy now if you'd like to get one and join the Undistracted Launch Team! I'll be out at The Oaks March 18 - 20 celebrating the launch of Undistracted and you're invited to join me. Learn more and register here.

We're talking about living undistracted lives. There's a book by this guy I know. That would be me. I'm not trying to hustle books. I just hope that my circle of friends would live less distracted lives. And you know who you are because right now you're doing four things.

You're on your iPhone and you're trying to drive and you're listening and you're doing all these things staring with your knees. What we do is there's this myth of multitasking and the myth of multitasking goes something like this. Just say ABC like the first three letters of the alphabet and then one, two, three, four like the first four numbers in a row and then say give me the next four letters of the alphabet. Now give me the next two numbers. Now give me the next three letters. Now give me the next

three numbers. And it's really simple stuff. It's just the changing of gears where we do the grinding. That's where this myth of multitasking. It's just a great way to illustrate that we think that we're doing many things at a time and actually we're switching between one thing at a time.

1:16.0

And you might be switching quickly, but it's in the switching. It's in putting in the clutch in between those and changing gears. Are we talking about letters now? We talk about numbers. And where did I leave off on the letters. Where did I leave off on the numbers. And so undistracted isn't about more efficiency. It starts with realizing what's going on.

Like this is actually what's happening in my life that I'm distracted by this and my idea is that it comes from Ephesians 3 20 and I you don't need a Bible verse for everything, but it's that God is going to do in measurably more than we get ever even imagine, but I'm telling you we're not going to get there if we're distracted.

1:59.0

So we can't do a measurably more. We're trying to figure out ABC 123. Like leave that to Michael Jackson. What I want to do is figure out like undistracted life and how can we live it laden with purpose and meaning connection between people having a couple authentic relationships.

2:19.0

You might do a little bit of that in your own lives and you only got a little while to figure it out 4,000 weeks. That's what we have on average 27,373 days, which sounded like a big number until I had 24,000 in the rear view mirror.

2:36.0

And I'm just being out live all you guys, but in the unlikely event that I don't I want to do this at Psalm 90 it says to number your days. James talks about our life being a vapor and I just don't want to go through it distracted. I don't think you do either.

2:53.0

What we need to do is realize that people are really on edge. I flew somewhere I was mostly writing down whatever the next writing project was.

3:04.0

And there was this rockest next door and it turns out they arrested the guy across the aisle from me on the plane took him out in handcuffs.

3:12.0

And I'm like, oh my gosh, I didn't even I was so wonderfully focused on what I was doing. I wasn't noticing the guy three feet from me was losing his mind and his liberties.

3:24.0

And so what I want you to do is to be so focused on things that matter that you're not like distracted by all the crazy around you.

3:35.0

Think about that to say what is going to actually outlast me. It feels too predictable to say write your eulogy and that can be a terrific exercise.

3:44.0

If if you haven't done it before, go ahead and do it. But what would be even more important to say we'll be the memories that surround me.

3:53.0

Will people remember will they remember that when they had me over for dinner before I left I got a sharpie and I signed underneath their table.

4:02.0

Will they remember that they came over to dinner at my house and signed their name under mine and and they thought it was a crazy idea until they looked underneath the table and they saw 500 other people had done the thing.

4:14.0

That kind of thing. These are the memories that will be the ones that will stand out in people's minds. I don't want them to say this is Bob's position on and then insert whatever the social issue of the day is that they're important social issues that they wouldn't be the one of the day.

4:30.0

However, I don't want to be remembered for that. I want to be known for a couple things, but I want to be remembered for my love.

4:39.0

I want to stand with people who've had a difficult time in life. We had some real headwinds in their lives.

4:46.0

And what we got to figure out is what matters more than whatever it is that's distracting us. So you could say what matters more than whatever it is think of the three or five or 10 things that are going on in your life right now.

5:00.0

What's going on in my life right now we have one of our family members can have a baby and boy I'm telling you nothing is more important than that.

5:09.0

What also is going on is I've got a car that's got a light on it says the tire pressure is low. And now I don't know if that's true or not that looks feels okay to me.
