So we're technically on a break, but it is the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth.

And so we thought that we would use it as an excuse to partner with our friends over at Pod in Prejudice and watch a bonus movie.

To that end, we are watching Becoming Jane, the 2007 Anne Hathaway James McAvoy movie,

that theoretically is a biopic about Jane Austen.

Unfortunately, it has little to do with what we actually know about Jane Austen,

which, by the way, we know very little, so you'd think it would be easy to get the, like,

ten facts that we do know, correct.

Becoming Jane is about a 21-year-old Austin, who lives with her family in pastoral,

Hampshire.

She's very close with her sister Cassandra, who's engaged.

And Jane is a budding writer trying to find her

voice when a Mr. Tom Lefroy arrives on the scene. Tom is a brash, dashing Irishman,

studying under his uncle's sponsorship to be a lawyer. He gets sent to the countryside because he's boxing

and hoaring too much. Gambling, running around St. James is like a neck or nothing young

blood of the fancy. What kind of lawyer will that make? Typical. And gets sent straight to cousins

in Hampshire into Jane's orbit.

The two butt heads...

Where exactly an island does he come from anyway?

Limerick, Miss Austin.

But then, fall in love.

Jane is being pursued by the local wealthy woman's nephew, Whistley.

And Whistley proposes.
