Summary

"There may be something there that wasn't there before" … sings the cast of Beauty and the Beast at a pivotal moment in the Disney Classic. Well, days away from its appearance as a live-action film, those words couldn't ring more true! There is something there that wasn't there before: a homosexual character! It's got a lot of people talking since the director puffs the film as the first Disney movie to have an 'exclusively gay moment'. It's no surprise Hollywood has come to this, but then … it's a children's movie! So question is: As Christians, do we let our children see it? Where do we draw the line for entertainment? Perhaps it's not so black and white …? 1:14.2	We have a bit of red meat to throw out for you.
1:22.2	It's not red meat that we created, but currently there is a vigorous discussion going on about the latest Disney creation. That is the live action movie, Beauty and the Beast, which is a remake, a live action remake of the classic
1:30.3	animated version back from, oh gosh, it's been about 25 years ago now, I think.
1:36.5	Well, all of the hubbub surrounds the comments of the director of this live version, Bill Condon, who said that the movie contains, quote,
1:47.6	an exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie, end quote.
1:52.6	What he's referring to is the relationship between Gaston, who is the kind of the primary
1:57.7	antagonist in the movie, and one of his sidekicks, a guy named LaFou.
2:03.6	And LaFoux has been cast as a homosexual in this movie, who clearly has his affections set on Gaston.
2:14.4	Much has been written about this.
2:16.1	The question we kind of want to delve into is, should
2:19.5	Christians take their kids to see Beauty and the Beast, knowing that it has a, quote,
2:25.3	exclusively gay moment? And let me just say that a blogger out of Northern Virginia, a Christian blogger,
2:32.4	did go to see this. And she confirms in quite a bit of detail that it's not just a moment, but kind of a running narrative in the movie in this relationship between Lafou and Gaston. And she says LaFou is clearly cast as a homosexual. It's not kind of under the surface and only the adults will get it.
2:51.1	She says it's made very explicit. It's very clear. He has a man crush on Gaston.
2:57.6	So Carl and Amy, your thoughts should Christian parents knowing that this movie casts a normative light, if you will, on homosexual desire,
